Myrrhwood Farm

About Myrrhwood Farm:

We began raising sheep in Colorado over 12 years ago. It all started with Icelandic sheep and then we added Border Leicesters. We moved back to Nebraska in 1993 because of the abundance of grass here for grazing. Both my wife and I were raised here. We wanted to raise our sheep as naturally as possible and knew that the dry conditions in Colorado would not let us do this. We chose Icelandics and Border Leicesters for their heartiness and wool production. We are very much devoted to raising our sheep as naturally as we can, and giving them as good a life as possible. We have begun using some our our wethers to produce a natural tender and healthy meat. Both breeds being a coarse wooled sheep, produce a wonderful flavored meat. We continue to look for and use natural forms of pest management and nutrition to produce the best sheep possible. My wife and I are both handspinners and make our own line of handspun yarns from our own wool called "Little Splash Yarns".

General Practices:

We strive to raise our sheep as naturally as possible. We use rotation grazing for our flock for up to six months of the year depending on weather conditions. We use no antibiotics or hormones, and worm only as needed. We are working towards using only natural dewormers such as diatomaceous earth and garlic.

Highlights:

We just received an order of very nice lamb meat which we will be selling by the cut. We will be taking another group for processing in January.

Product Types:

all natural lamb, handmade cold processed essential oil soap. handspun wool yarns.
