Tree-ripened Fresh Market Apples About Us Morningside Orchard is a family orchard located 70 miles north of Omaha in the Loess Hills of Iowa. Our trees were planted in 1991 and we have been growing apples in a holistic, synthetic input free environment ever since. We have been committed to the organic movement since the 1970’s. My family consists of me, Douglas, my spouse and partner, Judy, our daughter, Ana age three and son David, age two. We look forward to serving you in the future. Browse through our Products for Sale Ingredients We grow five varieties of apples: Fireside, Golden Delicious, Haralson, Liberty and Wolf River. Presently, we are picking Fireside and Wolf River. In October Golden Delicious, Haralson and Liberty will be available. Our philosophy is to keep the fruit on the tree until it is ripe. Your order is picked the day before delivery to ensure peak freshness and nutrition. We recommend you store them in the refrigerator until they are eaten or made into something scrumptious. They are available by the pound in any quantity you desire. Practices (our standards for raising or making our products) At Morningside Orchards we focus on preventative practices and diversity in the ecosystem for insect and disease control. The health of the soil and of the tree is of the utmost importance. We are striving to make our orchard system a closed one with minimal outside inputs. We range our chickens, ducks and geese in the spring in movable pens to control insects and keep weeds down. Their litter is composted using Biodynamic techniques to be recycled into the soil. We strive to produce the highest quality, nutritionally dense fresh fruit we can, and are always reviewing our practices to improve the health of our trees. Our orchard follows organic practices and will seek certification under the National Organic Program in the spring of next year.
