For information about our chickens. Please do not order here. We raise chickens from spring through fall. We begin the chicks in the barn until they feather out enough to be moved outside at which time they enter bottomless pens. The pens are moved each day allowing the chickens to forage for bugs and grasses on fresh ground. They are given water as needed (sometimes several time per day) as well as a natural mineral supplement and feed from Wattermann Family Farm (also an NFC producer). When they have matured they are processed right here on the farm in our inspected facility. We hire a small crew each season. Our employees appreciate the work and take pride in their service. Often times they comment on how different the birds are that are raised on our farm and those that come from many of the other farms. (Yes we do process for other farmers.) Our birds are on our pasture which is not sprayed nor do they receive hormones or antibiotics. We feel properly cooked these chickens may very well bring back memories of Sunday dinner at Grandma's house. When purchasing from us you can be sure you are buying tasty, healthy chicken as well as helping to support our local economy,the Ne. Food Coop, as well as our small family farm. We appreciate your business.
How it works...place an order below for the number of chickens you want each month. (Months are listed as different items.) You will be charged a deposit of $7per chicken ordered which will be deducted from your total when the bird is delivered. Keep track of the number you order and for which months so when that month comes around you can place an order for the delivery of the bird. 2012 Heritage Meat Bird- Reservation

THIS IS A DEPOSIT FOR A HERITAGE CHICKEN TO BE DELIVERED AT THE END OF JUNE OR IN JULY DEPENDING ON THE ORDER CYCLE TIMING.
These chickens are Rhode Island Red roosters raised specifically to be meat birds. These will produce the fried chicken like Grandma used to make. The chickens will be around 16 weeks old at the time of butcher and weigh around 3 to 5 pounds. These aren't old roosters! They will have smaller breasts and darker dark meat than the typical broiler chicken. They will have a stronger flavor also. You are placing an order with a $5 deposit. This secures a whole heritage chicken with your $5 deposit. You will be billed for the exact weight at $3.75 lbs. minus your $5 deposit at delivery. |

You will be billed for the exact weight at $3.00 lbs. minus your deposit at delivery. This price is $0.35 less per pound than buying our chickens one at a time! Our first chickens of the year are always the biggest of the year for us. These should range from 3.5 lbs. to 5 or more pounds per bird. These whole processed chickens are pasture raised outside starting at 4 weeks or sooner on an all natural diet that makes for a tasty chicken. Unfortunately we had to raise our price to cover increased costs in 2012 including chicks, feed and processing. |

We decided to again list some of our personal broiler inventory for sale. We grow about 100 broilers a year, but only need 75, so are offering 25 for sale. These are fed our freshly-ground broiler feed with organic & transitional grains, and we like them large, so grow them out an extra week.
They are processed at the nearby Nebraska Poultry Growers Cooperative we helped to start with the Kvams (also NFC producers!). They're CUT-UP broilers: 1 back, 1 neck, 2 wings, 2 legs, 2 thighs, 2 half-breasts. No giblets. |
