About Us
My son Eli and I farm about 2.5 acres and have one large commercial size greenhouse for plant propagation and growing. My husband, Brent and I have owned our 10acre scenic Loess Hills ground for 10 years and farmed organically since 2005. We sell to individuals through a Community Supported Agriculture project, have attended many different farmer's markets, Whole Foods Market and to VMertz restaurant in the Old Market. We do direct sales of plants from the farm in early Spring.

Practices (our standards for raising or making our products)
I have always used organic inputs and seed on my farm. We are certified organic through Iowa Department of Agriculture for the past 5 years, and have had few problems with compliance in the National Organic Program rules and regulations. We believe strongly that our plants and produce are as cleanly grown as possible and in a sustainable earth friendly way.

Additional Information
I enjoy working with young people on our farm and teaching them the potential of being a diversified small farm operation. Because our son Eli is in Horticulture school at University of Nebraska, Lincoln he helps during his summer break. He has brought students to our farm and acts as a peer mentor for them. Since I am self-trained, Eli also brings fresh ideas and technical knowledge to me. We hope to grow our business for future generations of Bloom farmers.

Highlights this Month
October finds Fertile Crescent Farm winding down for the season. We are still harvesting and selling potatoes, winter squash and sunchokes. Also limited quantities of garlic and shallots. Cereal rye cover crop and seed garlic will go in the ground later this month.
