Sunflower Acres: Calendula Infused Olive Oil & Lip Balm, Healthy Pooch Dog Treats, New Concept Denim Planters, & Live Plants About Us I have finally found one name for everything that I make, and grow. Since the Sunflowers were here when I bought the land, it is only right to call it Sunflower Acres. Some of the products include: Calendula Infused Olive Oil & Lip Balm, Healthy Pooch Dog Treats, New Concept Denim Planters, Herbs and Vegetables when in season. I started making dog treats for my German Shorthair, Earl, to be sure he gets nutrition in his diet. He just can't get enough of them! Every batch of Healthy Pooch Dog Treats is tested by myself, Earl, Gypsy (my latest addition to our family) and some of my friends. Sometimes I go back for more Beet Treats! Let's face it, how many of us eat Beets on a regular basis?! Beets are high in fiber, potassium, iron, and folate. I buy organic when possible, then I cut the treats into fun shapes: Dog houses, Fire hydrants, Paws, & Bones. No preservatives are added, so they should be stored in the freezer. According to the ASPCA website, dogs need 3 food groups in their diet: Meat, Grains, & Vegetables. To find out more information on care and feeding you can go to aspca.org. You will see which foods are good and bad for our 4 legged friends. Treats should only consist of 10% of your pets diet. I like to keep busy, so I have added a new product: Calendula Infused Olive Oil for minor cuts, scrapes, minor burns, sunburn, dry skin, and even hydrates wrinkles. Also Calendula Lip Balm made from 100% pure Olive Oil and local Beeswax. I now have another fun product, (since I have some time on my hands right now): New Concept Denim Planters made from recycled blue jeans. I love to garden and I'm always trying to think of new ways to recycle. I saw the potato bags made from black fabric and thought denim would be much more attractive! You can find the denim planters under "Live Plants & Gardening, Garden Accessories". Yet another product, I must have too much time on my hands! I over-planted tomatoes, Lettuce, Hyacinth Bean, non-edible, and a few others, so I am selling some of the extras under Live Plants, Gardening. I never use any chemicals on my gardens. Sometimes we add crushed eggshells to recycle, and give the plants nutrition. Calendula, or Pot Marigold has been used for thousands of years for it's healing, anti-bacterial, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory qualities for rashes, eczema, scrapes, minor wounds, and sunburn. Calendula petals from our garden are infused with 100% Pure Olive Oil, which also benefits dry skin, and strained into 4 oz. clear plastic bottles. My favorite use, so far is for dry elbows, knees, and feet. A few nights ago, I accidently spilled half of a jar down my leg, and instead of wasting it, I rubbed it on my elbows, legs, and feet. I had a few mosquito bites & sunburn, it stopped the itch right away. It worked better than any lotion I have used. However, you don't need to use that much! A little goes a long way. My latest use: I have been massaging it in an upward motion on my face for a couple wrinkles and a frown line, for a few weeks now in the AM and PM. Then I blot it with a towel. I can barely notice the wrinkles! It feels good to know I am not rubbing chemicles into my skin, like most face creams. We never use chemicals in any of our gardens. Tip: One of the leading causes of skin problems is dehydration. Keep hydrated by drinking plenty of fresh clean unpolluted water. Try not to wait until you are thirsty. |

Fresh Catmint Order number of bunches. Fresh or dried Catmint is an herb that can be used to make tea. To make Catmint tea, steep rinsed leaves in boiling water for 5 minutes, or put 2 stems in a clear juice bottle and set outside in the sun for a few hours. Catmint (Nepeta) leaves and flowering tops are used in herbal preparations, to help induce natural sleep in humans. It contains nepetaloctone which has a calming effect. Also used to ease digestion, control symptoms of diarrhea, colds, infection, dandruff, swollen eyes, rheumatism, allergies, headaches, and toothaches. Check with a professional on how to prepare the Catmint. Catmint should be used with caution when given to cats. The herb may produce excessive stupor and even convulsions in cats if given in excess. Tip for cat toy: Place 1 Tablespoon dried Catmint in a 4 inch square of scrap fabric, roll up, tie ends securely with string. Leave one string extra long. Another idea: use a small old sock with about a Tablespoon of Catmint, tie a knot in it. Our Catmint is still growing (even after a few very cold nights), but not blooming at this time. I may have to harvest it real soon, and dry it. No chemicals are ever used in our gardens. |
