Oregon Spur Red Delicious, Blushing Golden, Arkansas Black apples, bedding plants, herbs, tomatoes, and bell peppers. About Us Summit Orchard started out as a hobby. When we moved here 25 years ago we decided to plant a "few" fruit trees. There are now approximately 150 apple trees of 15 or so varieties and several pear and peach also. The bedding plant business also began as a hobby. Woody has always liked to garden but was not happy with the quality and variety of plants found in garden centers and discount stores. He began researching new and improved hybrids in tomatoes and peppers. Over the last 10 years we have found what we feel to be some of the best varieties available today. We continue to plant new varieties as they become available, which we trial in our own home garden before offering them to our customers. Having several plants left over from what was needed for our garden, we offered them for sale to staff members at the school where I was currently teaching. It took on a life of its own - spreading to other schools, friends, and friends of friends. After retirement, I started participating in the local Plattsmouth Farmers' Market and the business has grown into the current "hobby". Flavor is sweet-tart, similar to Winesap. When fully ripe, flesh is yellow and very crisp. An excellent culinary apple. Refrigeration will increase shelf life to several months.
